i'm such a lucky gal! these io caterpillars were happily waiting for my return from PDX. can you freakin' see how many there are? if you guess correctly, you might win a big jarful of M&Ms!
the leaf was about 2.25 inches across, so you can imagine how small these <strike>are</strike> were and unmoving too! i had to blow on them gently to see even a little wriggle...

| the trouble begins here |
[Aug. 1st, 2007|10:58 am] |
So I was out setting up the new patio umbrella, and applying general surveillance, as needed. I checked out one of the mallows I got from these nice folks at the Farmers' Market. Yo! What do I spy?
Io caterpillar eggs! On three leaves.
Some have already hatched! these are those bright green stinging guys. Crikey! They're so small, I couldn't get the camera to focus on anything but the leaf.
After I freaked out and took care of stuff, I admired the ever-growing bottle tree...

| | sleepy | ] | i am seriously considering toasting the "raw" flax crackers i dehydrated for almost 24 hours. they're pretty tasty, but they just lack the crunch I know they'd get if I jammed them into my double decker hello kitty toaster. i know it's plain wrong, but the urge is pretty strong.

i'm considering starting a a new food blog, but i already spend sooo much time on the interwebs that i'm not sure it'd be a good idea. i just get so inspired, when i see all these crafty, vegan-ie blogs floating around. and i swear i'd never use the word blogosphere, so maybe i should consider it?
if you ever wanted to see a good shot of my sloppy kitchen, here's your chance. this crafty photo was stitched together by the camera of my good pal, fieldsofgarlic. it's pretty cool, no? if you wonder what's up, we're wearing the official fake egg blindfold, that goes hand in hand with the cookie wars on Herbivore Magazine.

the hoppers have been loving on the fig tree. they love it so much, they're stripping it down. do green grasshoppers turn into huge brown grasshoppers? the little guy from before only has one back leg, but then today i noticed that one of the big guys also has only one back leg. i wonder if it's the same little man? i don't care too much about the fig tree cuz they're eating the leaves only and the tree has already set fruit (i've been picking one or two a day this week).
he looks so parched and aged!
this hopper's not as innocent as he looks, believe me.
one of the bigger guys holding on to my lime tree for life. doesn't he look robotic?
i'm worried the chrysalis is dead. it looks pretty dead, huh? |

[Jul. 21st, 2007|07:14 pm] |
i went out back to pick a huge amount of jalapenos today, they're bright red and ready to go, and i've been putting it off. i think there were about 35 or so from three plants i have together in a tire. hark! what do i spy?
someone's been eating my jalapenos! my very, very, very SHPICY jalapenos...
and someone's been shitting in my garden! perfectly formed geometric shits, that is.
and someone wants to sleep in my bed! i'm sorry, you may not sleep in my bed, but you may have some candy. would you like some candy, little girl?
who knew that hornworm poo looked so much like cocoa puffs? i knew they looked like bunny balls, and boba, but this coincidence is shocking...
i made some square's for katrina's going away party, last night. peanut butter cocoa puff squares, to be exact.
i thought they might cut the roof of my mouth, but they didn't at all. they had a nice peanut butter insulation thing going on.
